Two for Ewe haunting home town team Print E-mail

 Turriff United were playing their first home game of the season as ground improvements continue and on the lush green surface they were to record a memorable victory in a game where all the action came in the second half.

The main first half talking point was in 24 minutes when Dean Donaldson had a goal chalked off but referee Tommy Shaw had already blown for an infringement before the ball went between the sticks. Donaldson was cautioned for dissent later in the half

It is very rare for a game between these sides to be so lacklustre especially after the eight goal thriller at Kynoch on Day One. And it all ignited right after the break.  Michael Ewen  with a great volley after Mark Cowie's shot was deflected into his path, the No 9 scoring with a sweet volley into the top corner.

Darren McAllister almost equalised with a dipping volley, Grant Pennet scrambling to save on his line

It got even better for one of last season's newcomers five minutes later and this time it was Mark Cowie doing the business himself with a well taken free kick after his brother Dean was upended 25 yards out. Only 51 minutes on the clock

Turriff were going for more and it required a double save from Keith keeper Andy Shearer soon after saving from Dean Cowie from the spot after Kris Niddrie fouled his brother and then with his legs as Gary Harris looked for the killer touch from the rebound. There was actuallya stronger penalty claim when Niddrie fouled Ewen but the ref waved play
