Formartine United ruined Darren Still's first game in charge of Keith as they emerged with all three points thanks to a 3-0 victory at Kynoch Park that saw the visitors leapfrog the Maroons on the Highland League table. After a goalless first half, Andrew Bagshaw put Formartine in front before former Keith midfielder Barry Somers made it two just a few minutes later. Debutant Richie Singer rounded off United's victory with his late effort. Here are the thoughts of both managers. Darren Still (Keith) I was really disappointed with the performance in particular with the second half. Throughout the 90 minutes, our distribution, our passing and movement off the ball in the final third wasn't acceptable. We were really poor in that department and we were into the 80th minute before we made the Formartine keeper actually make a save. Considering we have players of good quality in the final third, we were very poor in that department. I was disappointed with how we reacted when we went 2-0 down because there was still over half an hour of the game to go. The disappointing thing was that we didn't put a bit more zest into it to try to get ourselves back into the game. The third goal came on the break late on when we had committed quite a few bodies forward but I think the third goal was irrelevant by that time because I didn't think we were coming back into the game by then. There was still plenty time to go when we conceded the first two goals. I don't think either side really done much in the first half and it wasn't a particularly good game in the first half. Formartine got their noses in front and goals change games. They certainly took a lift from the two quick fire goals and they played well in the second half. Credit to them for that. As I said to John (Gardiner) after the game, I would doubt very much if they have had an easier win this season because we really didn't show an awful lot in that second half. The good thing now is that the games are going to come thick and fast and we have got a chance to redeem ourselves as a group on Wednesday night when we have another home game. We will just go into that and try to be as positive as we can to try to get a positive result. John Gardiner (Formartine United) The whole team performed well right from the back through to the front. It was evenly tied at half time and there was nothing in the first half with neither goalie having anything to do. I said at half time to get the ball wider and quicker. We started getting to them and the two quick-fire goals did the trick. To be truthful, we had two cleared off the line and on another day it could have been at least 4-0. Keith did start pressing and left gaps for the third goal. There were some good individual performances with Andy Bagshaw working his socks off up front and Ritchie Singer did well - he just needs some more match practice. |
