One of the most attractive looking fixtures on the card this weekend pits Forres Mechanics with a home match against Keith at Mosset Park as the Can Cans look to get back to winning ways after two successive defeats while the Maroons go in search of Darren Still's first win as manager. The Cans were beaten at Fraserburgh last weekend and need three points from this game to boost their chances of a top six finish. Gordon Winton's men are now in danger of being caught by Inverurie Locos in the Highland League table and the Mosset Park boss said: "As soon as a new manager comes in, players seem to lift their game to prove to him that they should keep their position in the team while other players will try to prove that they are worthy of a regular position in the side. "Keith are a decent team and I am surprised at where they are in the league just now. They have always been strong over the last few years so I can't see it being very easy. We are on our own pitch though so hopefully if it gets the go ahead we can go out and take the three points. "We were a bit disappointed that we didn't take anything from last week's game. We gave away goals early on that cost us in the end which was disappointing although I was pleased that we went away from home to place like Fraserburgh and managed to score three goals. It is a pity that we didn't manage to keep a couple out to get the win. Hopefully we can play at the same tempo as we did at the start of the game through at the Broch. "It will be good to get back onto our own pitch again. You always have a bit of an advantage when you play at home and we will be going out to try and get the three points." Winton welcomes full back Gary Youngson back into his squad after he served a one-match suspension last week but goalkeeper Stuart Knight is still away on a works course so Ross Harkness continues to deputise. Also out is young striker Matty Fraser who has back and shoulder injuries. Keith have played just one game since Still's appointment as boss back in December having drawn at Lossiemouth a fortnight ago. The new manager is looking to strike a consistent chord in what has been an up-and-down campaign for the Maroons. The boss said: "We will certainly have to deal with Forres from an aerial point of view because they are a big, physical team and carry a threat at set pieces. We will have to make our guys aware of that although I am sure some of our more experienced players will know that already. "They were on a good run before the weather interruption although I noticed they lost last week. They will be looking to bounce back pretty quickly from that and it is something we will have to be ready for. "We just want a run of games now and I think everybody is in the same boat. You can do as much training as you want but you have to vary the training to keep the guys motivated and that is something we think we have managed to do. It is just a case of now praying that this game is on." Still only has one absentee going into the game and that is former Deveronvale, Huntly and Celtic youth striker Gary Nicol. That means Dean Donaldson and Derek Nicol are back in the fold after recent suspensions while Neil Robertson is also available for selection after a lengthy layoff although he is someway off the pace in terms of match practice. Defender Iain Good - who was another of Keith's long term casualties - has been released from his contract at Kynoch Park by mutual consent. |
