Turriff at full strength / Still ready for managerial bow Print E-mail
Darren Still takes his managerial bow at the helm of Keith having taken over from Martin Allan last week. The Maroons midfielder will continue to be registered as a player but intends to focus most of his energies on the managing side of things.

His first job will be to negotiate a Turriff United side who have lost their last six games on the spin and are eager to get back on the winning trail and avoid being caught by the likes of Lossiemouth and Clachnacuddin in the league table. Manager Kris Hunter said:

"I am looking forward to pitting my wits against Darren. We had a few good tussles first of all when he was at Lossie then when he was at Keith during my playing days. I have a lot of time for Darren. He is one of the lads that used to come through and play in charity games for me. He is a decent guy and I think he deserves his chance at managing Keith.

"I think everybody involved with our club needs a game. The last couple of weeks have been frustrating for us and everybody is getting fed up of not having games on. We need to get back playing football again and here's hoping the temperatures stay up and we can get a game on Saturday."

Hunter expects to have a fully fit squad for the game and although one or two players have been nursing knocks over the festive period, the Turriff boss expects all of his players to be available for selection.

United recorded arguably their most impressive Highland League result to date when they came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Keith earlier in the season and Still is well aware of the challenge that faces his side as he looks to get his reign off to a positive start. He said:

"I am definitely looking forward to the game and hopefully the weather relents a little bit. It would say the game is probably doubtful at the moment but I am still hugely looking forward to the day.

"We have already played Turriff twice this season and both games were particularly close. We won 3-2 in the Aberdeenshire Cup and they reversed that score in the league a couple of weeks later.

"They certainly played well in those two games and each' game could have gone either way. We are definitely expecting a tough game and although results haven't really gone their way recently, apparently they have been putting in some decent performances and I am sure that they are looking to turn those performances into results."

Ahead of his first game in management, Still will be without the usual injured trio of Iain Good, Neil Robertson and Gary Nicol while both Dean Donaldson and Derek Nicol are suspended having been sent off at Inverurie Locos at the start of December. Added to that, Wayne Mackay is unavailable due to a family holiday.
