On a day of glorious sunshine, a rarity in Keith in recent weeks to say the least, home striker Dean Donaldson added an extra huge ray of sunshine with a brilliant hat-trick of headers to help sink visitors Wick Academy in an enthralling encounter at Kynoch Park.
Yet early on it looked as though it was going to be one of those days for home fans, when three chances went by the board in the opening ten minutes. After only three minutes Donaldson thought he's netted when he headed a Darren McAllister cross into the net, but he was ruled to be offside, a close call to say the least. Then the same Deano cut the ball inside for Cammy Keith whose shot was blocked by Alan Bokas, then the bold Cammy was denied by a block by Steven Cunningham, the ball flying over the bar.
Surprisingly it was still all square after 20 minutes, but what was even more surprising a minute later, Wick took the lead when top scorer David Allan rifled home from 15 yards. For a ten minute or so spell the visitors held the upper hand, but the Maroons knuckled down and began to push forward once again, and it was a riveting end to end clash with plenty of action for the sun drenched spectators.
Four minutes from the half-time cuppa Darren Still's men deservedly drew level with Dean Donaldson grabbing the first of his treble, superbly heading home a Stuart Walker cross from out on the right wing.
Keith kept the upper hand after the break, but couldn't edge ahead until the 58th minute when Donaldson cut the ball into the path of top scorer |
